The NHL playoffs have been amazing. My wings were knocked out of the second round.. But they made it to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2008 and 2009, against the Pittsburgh Penguins,, which were just knocked out by Montreal Canadiens. The Sharks knocked out my wings, and are awaiting to play Chicago. The Boston Bruins and the Philladelphia Flyers will have a game seven tonight, and the winner of that game seven will play Montreal. I’d like to see Montreal and the Bruins in the finals. So we will see how it goes.

On Saturday January 30th, 2010, I was scoring an American hockey league team game, the Texas Stars against the Abbotsford Heat, in Cedar Park Texas. The Heat is the Calgary Flames farm team.

I actually had the rare privilege of meeting Darryl Sutter during the second intermission of the game.  It was a pretty good game, the Stars won, and there was a Sutter on that team playing for the Heat.

In 74-76 Sutter played for the Red Deer Rustlers, in the AJHL, where he had 59 goals and 113 assists and 125 PIM. In 76-77 he played for the Lethbridge Broncos in the WCHL for a brief period of time and went back to the Red Deer Rustlers in 76-77 where he scored 55 goals and had 78 assists with 131 PIM. In 77-78 Sutter went back to the Broncos where he played 68 games and had 33 goals and 48 assists and 119 PIM.

In 78-79 Sutter played for the AHL team the New Brunswick Hawks, he played 19 games, had 7 goals and 6 assists, and 6 PIM, and also a brief period with the Flint Generals.  In 79-80, Sutter went back to the Hawks played 69 games with 35 goals, 31 assists and 69 PIM.

In 78 Sutter was drafted into the NHL by the Chicago Blackhawk’s in the 11th round, where he played from 1979 to 1987, playing 347 games, scoring 161 goals with 118 assists, and having 288 PIM. Through 87-88 season, Sutter was named Assistant Coach for the Blackhawk’s. In 88-89 Sutter was the Head Coach for the IHL’s Saginaw Hawks. In 89-90 season, Sutter was Head Coach for the IHL Indianapolis Ice where they won the Championship.

In 90-92, Sutter was an associate coach for the Blackhawk’s and in the 92 through 95 seasons was the Head Coach for the Blackhawk’s.  In 1997 to 2003, Sutter was named Head Coach of the San Jose Sharks, and 2003 through 2006 was the Head Coach for the Calgary Flames, where he went on from there to be the General Manager to this present day.

In 79-80 Sutter received the Dudley Red Garrett Memorial award with the AHL, and in 89-90 season with the IHL, the Commissioners Trophy.

Sutter, a very nice guy, personable, down to earth, it was a pleasure to meet him, and I wish I would have taken my camera out of my purse.

SUPERBOWL 44

I am excited about Super Bowl 44, that seems like a pretty large number, that we are up to 44 already. The Indianapolis Colts and The New Orleans Saints. This will be the Saints first Superbowl appearance, I believe its the Colts fourth. Yet I was pulling for Minnesota like a SOB, but ya know, if the cards dont fall the right way, it just doesnt happen.  I’ve never seen the Jets in a SuperBowl, because that was somewhere back in the 70′s, and I wasnt watching football back then. But it has been 33 years since Minnesota was in the Superbowl, they did not win when they were there.  Brett Favre will probably retire, there is no telling. They really slammed him in that game, poor old man, ha ha ha.. He’s not old, just seasoned.

I think the match up between the Colts and the Saints will be good. Its a toss up on who I would like to win the game. I usually go for the underdog, but being that both teams had the best record, in the AFC and NFC, its only natural for them to play against each other. May the best team win.

Its gonna be between number 18 and number 9…..

NFL football

Well, I can say that the Detroit Lions are not the worse team this year. I believe Tampa takes the cake on that one. The Saints are 13-0 and the Colts are 13-0, that pretty much sums it up on who the best teams are.  The playoffs will be starting soon. As much football as I’ve watched lately, you would have thought I would have written more.. Writers Block!!!!!!!

You might say, need I say more. It was so awesome.. I’ve been pulling for the Phillies not because they won last year. I do like their colors, but their players are just spectacular. Chase Utley, Jaysen Werth.  Home run hitters, their just great. The yankees have won 40 penants, and like 29 world series or some mumbo jumbo like that. That is alot for one team. The Oakland A’s have won 9 world series.. That’s great. I love the A’s.  I was praying that no one would sweep, and we would go to a game six or seven and this is the first game six in 7 years or something, 2001/2002.  I want to see a game seven, because then baseball will be over till the spring.  To bad they didnt have the best of 14 games instead of seven… Go Phillies!!!! Go Phillies!!!!!

Nationwide race

well kyle busch won himself another one last night…. He just keeps on keeping on…. The boys are in charlotte this weekend,, the chase is on……………..

Sports, all flavors

I feel like I hit a dry spell in  my sports writing lately. Yet, I’ve been watching enough sports as the next person. Last weeks Nascar race, Joey Logano wrecked, and did a 7 1/2 flip till he came to a stop. Shook him up pretty good, that was in Dover at the monster mile. This weekend past, in the Nationwide race, he passes Kyle Busch on the outside with two laps to go, to take the win at Kansas. Tony Stewart took the win yesterday in the sprint cup, it was a long race at the Kanas speedway, 267 mile and a half laps.  It was Great for Tony, he still sits fourth in points, he was on top, but was knocked down a few races back or so.  Did I say that Kyle Busch finished second in the Nationwide race. Well, Karma goes along way.The national hockey league has begun. Detroit played in sweden again the St. Louis Blues, the blues took them 5-3 in the end, they were close to being tied up through most of the game. The Cowboys game, that was fabulous, the funny thing is I cant remember who beat them with one second left, oh wait, it was the Broncos. That was a great game. The Steelers and the Chargers last night, that was a really good game, the chargers just kept coming back, the Steelers did end up winning 38 to 28…Tonight, the Packers and the Vikings…Never been a Viking fan, but love the Packers… So we’ll see how that goes. There should be some good hockey on tonight. Baseball seems to be wrapping itself up, the world series should be rolling around soon. I just dont watch enough baseball to know when it all starts, the playoffs are soon though I believe. Like I said, hadnt been for the dry spell, I would have been writing more…

NASCAR

This weekend starts the beginning of the chase, for 12 lucky drivers. Kyle Busch did not make the chase this year. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh,, Im so heartbroken. Seriously not. He just doesnt know to much about Karma.  He is a great driver, he’s young, and he has that mine set, hell I dont know where his mind set is. Does anybody?  All I can say is Karma, smash a trophy, and yea, Karma will take its course.

I am setting my sights on Tony Stewart to win the championship, even though Jimmie Johnson has come from behind three years in a row and came out with a win. Carl Edwards came a close second, in both the Nationwide, and the Sprint Cup.  Ryan Newman also made the chase, which is awesome, because its his first year with Stewart-Haas racing, and they both make it in. Mark Martin is in, Brian Vickers, Juan pablo montoya, and a few others per say. I think it will be an exciting ten race stretch to see who takes the win. The Sprint Cup Championship,, which the cup is a Flag, not a cup, you cant pour any liquids in it, so its not a cup, its a flag. May the best driver win.

8 years later

May we all have a moment silence in the memory of those who left us on that tragic day.

I have not written in several weeks it seems. I’m still watching my drivers in nascar, the sprint, nationwide, and the truck series.. Kyle Busch got himself a few victories last week. The Boys were in Bristol last week. This week has been such a blurr that I dont even know where they are this week. Fontana maybe?

Tony Stewart is still in the points lead,  quite a few drivers are doing what they can to make it into the chase. Doesn’t look like Jr is going to make it this year. I dont think he needs to worry to much. He is fantastic regardless.  If he stopped racing tomorrow, he would still always be an awesome person, in or out of the car. I havent met Jr. yet, you’d think though right.  Maybe someday I’ll meet him, someday, before I die.

You know, its one of those bucket list things. I’d like to meet Dale Jr, and one of my favorite actors of all time, Cliff DeYoung, he’s my second cousin, but I’ve never had the pleasure of meeting him, he’s been in a mega amount of movies over the years since I was a kid.

But back to Dale Jr. Yea, I would love to meet him before I’m 50.  Maybe this year at Texas Motor Speedway in November, that would be awesome.

Last night it poured rain down here in central texas, first rain we’ve had in over a month. We’ve had approximately 64 days of triple digit weather, so yea, the down pour last night was awesome.

Football has basically started, most pre-season seems to be finishing up. I havent made it through a single game yet.  Go Raiders, Go 49ers, and go Packers………

Hockey will be starting in about two months. I cant wait for that, and early fall would be nice though, temperatures in the 60′s or something. My Redwings I think are still the best team ever, so I can see my wings making the playoffs again. Dallas has a new coach, Marc Crawford, maybe he can pull the stars out of their slump, and if he cant, ha, their a lost cause. Yea, not a stars fan one bit.  I watch more hockey than any other sport. Hockey and Nascar though. Nascar goes through November, and Hockey starts in October, so its like the best of both worlds for two months of the two best sports ever. Baseball is going on right now, I just cant get into it. Maybe because the game to me is so slow paced. I couldnt hit the ball if I wanted to if I were up to bat.
